The remarkable story of climber and Olympic ski champion, Heinrich Harrer, who found himself a prisoner of the British at Dehra-Dun when war was declared in the summer of 1939. In 1944 he escaped and succeeded in reaching Tibet only to discover that the Tibetans did not like strangers. Eventually he reached the forbidden city of Lhasa where he became a friend and tutor to the present Dalai Lama.
